Excel, SQL, and R/Python: Oh My!

This session discusses the most common technology I-O researchers and practitioners use for collecting, storing, and analyzing data. This discussion uses real-world I-O applications to outline the capabilities of each software and provide the audience with a framework for identifying when to use each tool (or combination of tools). This session will be most beneficial for those with little experience using 1 or 2 of these tools. Panelists are I-O practitioners with extensive experience using technology and training others to facilitate modern research and business decisions.

Quantifying Theoretical Causes of Employee Engagement

The employee engagement industry is worth an estimated $74.3 billion (Intelligence Unit, 2016). Although researchers generally agree on the concept of engagement and the benefits of it, there is little agreement (and even less evidence) regarding the source(s) of engagement. This poster presents the results of a novel study quantifying the support for the 3 causal explanations of engagement: job characteristics, social exchanges, and the job demands/resources. Thousands of employees participated over multiple years and their data analyzed with multilevel within-subject mediation techniques.
